Former governor uses AI to co-author housing plan

If you were worried about disgraced former governor Andrew Cuomo being too “hands-on” during his run for New York mayor, fear not: the Love Gov’s campaign has an impersonal touch to it. Local news site Hell Gate exposed how the 29-page housing plan released by the Cuomo campaign bore the hallmarks of being partially put together using ChatGPT.

One particularly unparsable passage:

If you were worried about disgraced former governor Andrew Cuomo being too “hands-on” during his run for New York mayor, fear not: the Love Gov’s campaign has an impersonal touch to it. Local news site Hell Gate exposed how the 29-page housing plan released by the Cuomo campaign bore the hallmarks of being partially put together using ChatGPT.

One particularly unparsable passage:

Nevertheless, several candidates for mayor this year have either called directly for a rent increase or for other measures that would tilt the scale toward lower rent increases. This is a politically convenient posture, but to be in. Victory if landlords — small landlords in particular — are simply unable to maintain their buildings.

Campaign spokesperson Rich Azzopardi — that’s the longtime aide Cuomo has never been accused of making out with — copped to the error, telling the New York Post, “We are talking about a grammatically incorrect paragraph on page 28 of a 29-page paper that was missed on proof reading and that has since been remedied.”

Cockburn asked ChatGPT for the final word:

In the end, while Cuomo’s campaign may be trying to craft a bold vision for New York’s housing future, it seems they forgot to proofread the fine print – especially the parts drafted by a chatbot. As voters brace for another potential Cuomo comeback, at least they can rest easy knowing that this time, the gaffes might come from AI, not ego.

Honestly not bad from ChatGPT. Maybe it won’t be so bad when the robots enslave us all.

On our radar

ANTISOCIAL? OpenAI is looking to launch its own X-style social media platform, adding further fuel to the discord between Sam Altman and Elon Musk.

BUZZ KILL? Senator Bernie Sanders was brought out as a surprise guest by singer-songwriter Clairo during her Saturday set at Coachella.

HOWARD’S END? Pressure is mounting on Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, as he continues to push the idea of more tariffs, risking market backlash. Former White House senior advisor Steve Bannon said Lutnick was “close to being an unmitigated disaster.”

O-H-oh no!

J.D. fumbles college football championship trophy

In a valiant attempt to top Jeff Bezos hitting the deck after his wife’s rocket landed, Vice President J.D. Vance did his level best to shatter the College Football Playoff championship trophy, dropping it on the White House South Lawn as horrified players from his alma mater Ohio State watched on.

The scene became an instant meme, spoiling some otherwise clever remarks from Vance. The VP scored some early hometown points by going after the University of Michigan: “I don’t know who let the guy over in the corner here, in a Michigan hat, into this celebration… but I’m about to tell the Secret Service, ‘You’ve got a dangerous weapon, sir.’”

Michigan fans rejoiced as the trophy went down. “J.D. Vance sends jokes toward Michigan fan, then fumbles Ohio State’s championship trophy,” Michigan Live’s headline read.

Vance had a response for the ages that should mitigate any potential scandal: “I didn’t want anyone after Ohio State to get the trophy so I decided to break it,” he tweeted.
