Is the GOP turning on DeSantis?

Senate Republicans are annoyed that Florida governor Ron DeSantis parroted Donald Trump’s quasi-isolationist take on the Russia-Ukraine war, a congressional insider tells Cockburn. The establishment GOP is apparently worried that the party’s shift to a more nationalistic foreign policy could isolate the wealthy East Coast donor base, which is largely supportive of sending aid and weaponry to Ukraine.

DeSantis’s comments came in response to a query from Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who is trying to get all potential 2024 presidential candidates to go on-the-record with their stance on the conflict.

DeSantis said, “We cannot prioritize intervention in an escalating foreign war over the defense of our own homeland, especially as tens of thousands of Americans are dying every year from narcotics smuggled across our open border and our weapons arsenals critical for our own security are rapidly being depleted.”

Some GOP senators, including Senators John Cornyn and Lindsey Graham, have already attacked DeSantis publicly for his statement.

“I mean, Governor DeSantis is a veteran. He’s a smart guy. I think he’s a been a very good governor and I don’t understand him saying that Ukraine isn’t important to the United States,” Cornyn cried.

Kerry’s mile-high downgrade

Cockburn spotted Secretary John Kerry, Biden’s climate czar, on a flight from Boston to DC this week. The 2004 Democratic nominee for president gave him a respectful nod while on the phone in first class — though sadly Kerry wasn’t overheard doing anything juicy like floating himself as an alternate to Joe Biden, as he purportedly did in 2020.

Kerry is slumming it in commercial with the rest of us schmucks after selling his family private jet last month. He had been accused of “climate hypocrisy” for gracing the skies in a Succession-style PJ while insisting that average Americans make changes to their lifestyle to combat global warming.

Blind item: boozy governor fails constituents

Which former governor’s passion for the bottle got in the way of him serving his state?

A tipster told Cockburn that it took staffers hours to rouse the well-seasoned governor from his sauce-induced slumber to get him to respond to a national tragedy…

March 17 is Douglas Macgregor Day

Cockburn wishes a happy Douglas Macgregor Day, to all who celebrate. Today marks the one-year anniversary of the erstwhile colonel-turned-TV analyst’s claim that the war in Ukraine was over and the Russians had won.

“The war is really over for the Ukrainians. They have been grounded to bits. There’s no question about that despite what we report on our mainstream media,” Macgregor told host Tucker Carlson, one in a long series of appearances where he would insist Americans were being denied the truth that Russia was winning the war and winning bigly.

In the cavalcade of American television experts, no man has been more emphatic about inevitable Russian victory than Macgregor. Thousands of dead Russians and billions of Western dollars later, he’s still sticking to it — maybe by next Douglas Macgregor Day, he’ll be proven right…

Captain Marvel? More like Queen Brie…

Feminist actress Brie Larson is reportedly causing problems for her castmates again.

Film critic Jeff Sneider floated a number of contentious rumors on a podcast appearance this week. Apparently the upcoming sequel to Captain Marvel might be facing delays due to Larson’s attitude on set. Larson was apparently quite ego-bruised that the film was named The Marvels as opposed to Captain Marvel 2, considering she was supposed to be the star of the show. Her “diva-like” and “nightmare” behavior has caused tension with her co-star, Teyonah Parris.

This isn’t the first time Larson has been the subject of rumors that she’s hard to work with. The actress faced heavy criticism when clips from a press tour for Avengers: Endgame seemed to show her constantly annoying and belittling her colleagues.

Then again, the original Captain Marvel brought in over $1 billion, so maybe Larson has grounds to be a bit difficult…
