On Thursday, while delivering remarks at the eulogy for the late Representative Sheila Jackson Lee, Vice President Kamala Harris “accidentally” referred to herself as the president.
Kamala was discussing a bill that Lee co-sponsored with Republican senator John Cornyn that eventually became law and made Juneteenth a federal holiday.
“As a United States senator, I was proud to co-sponsor it. Then, as president — as vice president — it was my honor, with the president. With the president! It was my honor, along with our president, Joe Biden, to stand beside Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee as our president signed her bill into law.”
Whoops.
Fear not though, the mourners at the Fallbrook Church in Houston erupted with laughter before breaking out into applause over Harris’s mistake. The vice president, who is new to being met with any enthusiasm, let alone this much of it, couldn’t hide her smile at the podium.
The last twelve days have been full of the kind of unbridled support that Kamala could have only dreamed of in 2020.
Last week, a camera crew captured Kamala receiving a cringeworthy phone call from former president Barack Obama and Michelle Obama in which the two Democratic superstars endorsed her run against Trump.
This week a “White Women for Kamala” Zoom call went viral after a kindergarten teacher turned TikTok influencer named Mrs. Frazzled “gentle parented” former soccer star Megan Rapinoe, singer P!nk and other white ladies on how to “step up, listen and get involved” in the election.
Not to be outdone, the White Men for Kamala also held a Zoom that included Jeff Bridges and Sean Astin. It turns out that white woman guilt is no match for white man guilt. Josh Gad, who voiced Olaf the snowman in Frozen, told the race-segregated fundraising meeting that after Trump won in 2016, he stood over his kid’s bed and wept. Bridges managed to keep things a bit lighter and expressed his support for Kamala, “A woman president, man! How exciting.”
But in this hurry to usher in the age of Kamalot, the left has forgotten all about Biden. After all, he is still technically president… isn’t he?
He popped up on Thursday to announce a monumental hostage swap that sees Evan Gershkovich, Vladimir Kara-Murza, Paul Whelan and others returned to US shores. And he stood, looking a little lost, on the tarmac with Presid-, sorry, Vice President Harris, to greet them late at night.
But it feels like just yesterday the left’s narrative was that Biden was sharp, Socratic and figuring out equations on chalk boards in the hallways of the White House.
Then there was the sudden admission that well maybe he isn’t so sharp and Socratic but he is a selfless patriot and hero — he is just like George Washington but with better teeth.
Now it seems that the powers that be don’t really care about Biden’s narrative at all.
To be fair, the media elites and their overlords in the Democratic Party have their hands full trying to rewrite or expunge Kamala’s entire record and past policy stances to make her appear more electable. Like Biden, Kamala is going to need all hands (and puff pieces) on deck to win this.
It makes sense that the keyboard warriors have no time left to stroke Biden’s ego and praise his heroic decision to step aside. Besides, they all know that his decision to move on wasn’t his decision at all. It was a pressure campaign from the rest of his party and his camp of bitter clingers finally gave in.
If Biden was truly a selfless hero, wouldn’t he pass the torch to Kamala right now?
She wouldn’t have to continue to play co-president and bring her rinky-dink VP podium to the tarmac. She could deliver her word salads to reporters without Biden hovering beside her.
It would put her in a stronger position to win the election and it would help increase the odds she “saves our democracy.”
But that is the beauty of Joe Biden. He is not interested in helping Kamala. He is not concerned with saving democracy. He is focused on himself. Sadly, at this point, he might be the only one.
