Joe Biden’s grapple with senility is the GOP’s 2024 message

In Hanoi, he asserted American dominance in his typical way: representing the nation as a tired, hollowed-out shell of its former greatness

Weep, ad men. The Republican Party shouldn’t have to rely on any of you in 2024. They don’t need your creative, your deployment of over-the-top grainy crime videos, your use of shooting up legislation with AR-15s. All the GOP needs this election is an editor and the C-SPAN live feed of Joe Biden coping with senility.

For a cringe-inducing twenty-six minutes in Hanoi, Biden put his diminished, cranky, meandering mental capacity on display. He rolled out his frequently deployed Hollywood equivalent of a Mandela Effect — his own personal Berenstein Bears, his Stouffer’s Stove Top — about a movie scene that simply does not exist in the plane of existence which we, for our sins, inhabit. “And the Indian looks at John Wayne and points to the Union soldier and says, ‘He’s a lying dog faced pony soldier,’” Biden lied, mumbling this time about people in denial of global warming.

The commander-in-chief seemed confused and incapable of understanding how a simple press conference was supposed to go. “Let’s see, I’m just following my orders here,” he said, then asked a blanket question, “Staff, is there anybody I haven’t spoken to?” When reporters jumped into the opportunity to pepper him with questions, he snapped: “I ain’t calling on ya, I’m calling on… it says I have five questions!”

He asserted American dominance in his typical way, representing the nation as a tired, hollowed-out shell of its former greatness.

“Look, nobody likes having celebrated international meetings, if you don’t know what you want at the meeting. If you don’t have a game plan. He may have a game plan. He just hasn’t shared it with me,” Biden said. “But I tell you what, I don’t know about you, but I’m going to go to bed.”

The awkward nature was excruciating — so Karine Jean-Pierre’s voice interrupted the proceeding: “Thank you everybody. This ends the press conference. Thanks everyone.”

As the president gingerly walked off stage, a reporter shouted a question about whether he was concerned about his son being indicted. After that press conference, that should be low on the list of voter concerns.

This is the simple, straightforward case against Joe Biden 2024. He is too old to make it another four years with anything resembling a mentally capable approach to the most important job in the world. Republicans have their ad campaigns ready made. It will be curious to see how they screw it up.
