Earlier this month, a lawsuit was filed against Lizzo, the plus-size flute-playing singing sensation. It was alleged that she created a “hostile work environment and engaged in sexual harassment.” Lizzo has denied the allegations. But one week later and lawyers representing three of Lizzo’s former dancers say they’ve received new complaints.

Ron Zambrano said that his firm, which specializes in employment law, is vetting new allegations from at least six people who said they toured with Lizzo, including other dancers and some who said they worked on her Amazon reality show, Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls. The allegations are of a “sexually charged environment” and failure to pay employees.

The most shocking claims are the ones concerning the, uh, body-positive Lizzo’s disdain towards her dancers’ size. Zambrano alleged that the pop star once called out a dancer’s weight at South by Southwest during a post-show meeting. Lizzo reportedly told an employee that it was “normal” for dancers to be “fired when they get fat.”

Fans were shocked when the allegations were first made. Three dancers claim that in February 2023 the Grammy winner invited her team for a night out in Amsterdam that “quickly got out of hand.” The lawsuit states: “Lizzo began inviting cast members to take turns touching the nude performers, catching dildos launched from the performers’ vaginas and eating bananas protruding from the performers’ vaginas.” One plaintiff, Arianna Davis, said that Lizzo “pressured” and “goaded” her into touching a performer’s breast.

Lizzo later responded to the accusations calling them “false” and “unbelievable.”

“These last few days have been gut-wrenchingly difficult and overwhelmingly disappointing. My work ethic, morals and respectfulness have been questioned. My character has been criticized,” Lizzo began her statement on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Usually I choose not to respond to false allegations but these are as unbelievable as they sound and too outrageous to not be addressed.

“These sensationalized stories are coming from former employees who have already publicly admitted that they were told their behavior on tour was inappropriate and unprofessional.”

Cockburn thinks it’s About Damn Time that Lizzo faced the music…
